Project 1: Self-Portrait
INSTRUCTIONS
Create a self-portrait of yourself by applying the various principles that you had learnt through these weeks.
PROGRESS
Research and Inspiration
Through some research of digital self-portraits on Pinterest and the internet, I narrowed down to 3 main inspirations that I could potentially do. Below will be the ones that I've shortlisted
Figure 1.1 Portrait of Nick Cave by Howard Arkley
Figure 1.2 Pop Art style of a portrait of a man
Figure 1.3 Digital collage
After consultation with Ms Noranis, both of us agreed on taking the Digital Collage as the inspiration as it is a good starting point, as well as the most doable one.
The Main Idea
For my self-portrait work, I would focus on doing a digital collage. The visuals that will be presented will be things that I like, or the places that I would like to visit. Even with that being said, I made some improvisations regarding what I put in for my digital collage as I continued to edit my work.

Here is the photo that I've decided to work on for this assignment. Through the inspirations from Pinterest and the internet, I felt like this portrait of mine will work with my idea.
Progress (Digital Collage)

Figure 2.5 Progression check for Week 6
I showed Ms. Noranis my progress for the self-portrait. She mentioned that I'm on the right track, but the photo of the Grand Canyon looks awkward. I went back to Adobe Photoshop and this is where my slight change of plans started.

Figure 2.7 Creating a clipping mask for the fishes on top of my head to 'swirl' around
Figure 2.8 Self-portrait (Before Feedback)
After one final feedback session with Ms Noranis, she said that everything is good, but the black and white contrast of my portrait can be a little stronger. I made the necessary changes and below will be my final self-portrait work.
Final Project 1: Self-portrait
Design rationale:
Essentially, I wanted this self-portrait to showcase my passion for animals and who I am as a person.
- The collage that was placed are some of my favourite animals
- Cat: A neighbourhood cat around my area that loves to play
- Dog: My pet puppy that unfortunately passed away due to a virus
- Fish: Always admire the colours of a goldfish
- Parrot: A pet that I hope to take care one day
